About Joanne Sayre, Piano Teacher
Joanne Sayre began piano lessons at age 6. Her mother paid 50 cents per lesson to their church organist. Not long after she began lessons Ms. Sayre was referred to another instructor, Mr. Eugene Belt, a well known pianist in the Baltimore area. She studied with him until she was 12. He recommended to her parents that their daughter study at Peabody Preparatory which is part of Peabody Conservatory, also in Baltimore. For the next 6 years her Saturday mornings were spent at the Prep in private piano and theory classes. Upon high school graduation, Ms. Sayre continued her education as a music major at Towson State College, now known as Towson University. There she studied with Professor N. Jane Tan. When Ms. Sayre was 42 years old she returned to Towson to study again with Ms. Tan for 3 semesters and attend her master classes. Ms. Tan is a world renown instructor in pedagogy: she teaches her students how to teach. Joanne Sayre has conducted and written arrangements for several music groups including a 25 piece women's gospel group and composed a Christmas cantata. She has been the music director at a traditional and a contemporary worship church. Within the last 20 years she released 2 CDs of original music. Currently Ms. Sayre is a keyboardist for her church. |
